The Colorado Historic Opera Houses Circuit, which features five historical venues for modern-day entertainment in picturesque mountain towns, is celebrating anniversaries and festivals this summer.

Wheeler Opera House 1984 grand re-opening anniversary

Aspen’s Wheeler Opera House marks the 40th anniversary of its 1984 grand re-opening, celebrating the modern-day Wheeler on Memorial Day weekend. Peach Street Revival performs on Friday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m. This fierce, female-dominated rock band from Grand Junction, Colo., crafts hit songs, tours globally, and intertwines their music with the fashion industry. Judy Collins brings her Wildflowers Tour on Saturday, May 25 at 7:30 p.m. She has long inspired audiences with sublime vocals, boldly vulnerable songwriting, personal life triumphs, and a firm commitment to social activism.

New Wheeler Opera House and Aspen Music Festival and School (AMFS) History Tours commemorate the Wheeler’s anniversary and the AMFS’s 75th anniversary season. (Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Wheeler Opera House).

Colorado Historic Opera Houses Circuit plans to revive the circuit

The Colorado Historic Opera Houses Circuit, which celebrates its second anniversary in June, is working on plans to revive the historic tradition of artists “traveling the circuit” and performing in multiple opera houses. We hope to announce plans in the coming weeks.

About the Circuit

The Colorado Historic Opera Houses Circuit connects five opera houses in the Colorado mountains. There, visitors can see a world-class performance in an elegant historic setting that still carries the mystique of Colorado’s early mining boom days and explore some of Colorado’s most picturesque mountain towns.

The project is funded by a 2024 Marketing Matching Grant from the Colorado Tourism Office. Grant partners for 2023 include the Aspen Chamber Resort Association, Central City Opera House Association, City of Central City, Sheridan Arts Foundation, Tabor Opera House Preservation Foundation, Visit Leadville-Twin Lakes, and the Wheeler Opera House.
