Hawk Air is Hygiene Elementary’s annual capstone project, driven by students, facilitated by teachers, and propelled by parents. This community learning initiative integrates STEAM education with a design challenge centered on the year’s chosen destination. For the 2023-2024 school year, students are exploring Ecuador.

Throughout the year, students develop innovative and creative solutions while learning strategies to effectively communicate and solve problems for the betterment of the world. Kindergarten and first-grade students are tackling solutions to challenges faced by endangered species native to Ecuador, while students in second through fifth grades are focusing on strategies to slow deforestation in the Amazon rainforest.

Hawk Air culminates with a public open house at Hygiene Elementary on Thursday, May 2, from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. Community members are invited to join the school on this year’s journey to Ecuador and enjoy an immersion in architecture, art, food, music, and more.

For the past 14 years, Hawk Air has made a significant impact on the community, bringing people together in a unique and meaningful way.
