Longmont Rotary Club gets ready for another EPIC Day of Service.

Throughout the world and Boulder County Rotary clubs are coming together to perform an EPIC Day of Service. On this day each year, Rotary clubs pick a service project and recruit volunteers to help within the community.

Since its inception two years ago, Rotary clubs have rounded up over 14,000 volunteers and completed over 450 service projects. This year the clubs have a goal to complete over 24,000 volunteer hours on the EPIC Day of Service on May 18.

All the clubs within District 5450, or Boulder County, came together to decide what projects their clubs would like to do. There are six projects happening throughout the county for people to participate in.

The Rotary Club of Longmont is partnering with Growing Gardens — a nonprofit organization that provides fresh produce for those in need. Most of the produce from the garden is donated to the OUR Center which shares it through its market. The Rotary Club will spend the day planting this year’s crop from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Longmont YMCA at 950 Lashley St. The community is invited to help. Registration is encouraged.

Longmont Twin Peaks Rotary Club is partnering with the City of Longmont’s Adopt-a-Park program to clean up The Dickens Farm Nature area, Longmont’s newest park with the St. Vrain Creek running through it. The park is used for tubing, picnicking, cycling, hiking and it is a wonderful playground. Join us from 8:00 – 10:00 am. Buckets and trash bags will be provided. Bring gloves and comfortable shoes with closed toes. Sign up at this link! Location: Dickens Farm Nature Area, parking lot on Boston Ave between Main St. and Martin St. in Longmont.

The Outreach United Resource Center, Inc. (OUR Center) provides critical services such as food, housing, and utilities to help families achieve self-reliance. The Rotary Club of Niwot will be serving lunch at the OUR Center on Sunday, May 19. The first shift from 10:00 am - noon will cook and serve lunch. The second shift from noon to 2:00 pm will continue serving lunch and clean up. Sign-up at this link. Location: 220 Collyer Street, Longmont.

The Boulder Flatirons Rotary Club will partner with the MASA Seed Foundation to volunteer for the Foundation’s plant nursery, fields and Seedhouse. Contribute to local food sovereignty and learn the aspects of farming and open-pollinated seed growing. Morning and afternoon shifts between 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. Sign up at this link! Location: 1367 N. 75th Street, Boulder.

Boulder Rotary Club and the YMCA of Northern Colorado will work to restore YMCA Camp Tumbleson Lake. Formerly the Boy Scouts’ Tahosa High Adventure Base, the camp has been unused for three years and needs restoration before opening for day campers in summer 2024. All ages and agility levels are welcome. Lunch and work tools will be provided. Shifts from 9:00 am – 4:00 pm will be emailed to volunteers after registration. Enjoy a family day in the beauty of Indian Peaks Wilderness. Sign up at this link! Location: Lake Tumbleson near Brainard Lake, (enter Tahosa High Adventure Base into GPS), 173 County Road 96, Ward.

The Boulder Valley Club will partner with The Family Learning Center to provide needed maintenance on the Center’s facilities. Volunteers will be sanding, painting, and making minor repairs to fences, picnic tables and benches, garden beds, and other outdoor structures on the Center’s property. There will be two shifts (morning and afternoon) between 8:00 am – 3:00 pm. Sign up at this link! Location: 3164 34th St., Boulder.
